It's that time again boys and girls... Not Me! Monday! Be sure to check back at MckMama's blog to see everyone else's too!
I definitely did not stand in the bathroom for ten minutes after I showered Saturday morning because it was freakin' early and I was too cold to move. I had things to do, ya know!? Why would I do that.
I was not secretly happy at my chemical analysis test grade tonight. I got a D... (it curved to something higher...but still.)
Psh, and no way would I have had a slight meltdown driving into the Dillons parking lot tonight and screamed, "Why are there so many people here?!?!" and then proceed to bang my head on the steering wheel. That might make me slightly crazy. So nope...
As for things I have done... I did play with an adorable little girl today at work. It was dead and she and I were playing peekaboo with the counter. She was seriously adorable.
And I definitely made chicken noodle soup from scratch for dinner tonight... and though it's nothing like my mom's.... it'll do.
And I'm making cookies tonight.
And One Tree Hill is going to be on.
Yessss.
Not bad for a Monday.
love,
alex

"All I Need" by Mat Kearney
Sooo last night Michael and I went to a fancy restaurant called Della Voce. It was probably one of the two nicest restaurants I've been to... and for everyone's viewing pleasure... Pictures.

It was pretty dead in there, but very pretty.
I got some crazy shrimp fettuccine thing with roasted red peppers...

It was amazing... And Michael got a scallops...thing.
Which was almost worth as much as he paid for it.
The tiramissu was absolutely... amazing. We forgot to take a picture til it was almost gone... Oops. But nonetheless....ahhhh.
Then we got chai teas from a local coffeehouse and headed back to his place, where my presents were waiting for me (he got his before we left).. and a beautiful note. I'll never be nearly as good with words as he is.
Overall...two years... amazing years. I love you, Mike.
love,
alex

So in 4 days, the trees in my backyard have gone from...
this...

to this....

They look gorgeous. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
Okay, so the rest of this post is going to be the story of how Michael and I met and came to be. Most of you are way beyond familiar with this story, so feel free to skip. But my memory sucks, and some day I'd like to be able to look back and see things that I don't remember then... So yeah! And if you don't know the story, then.. I hope you enjoy?

So, I suppose the whole thing started in the summer of '05 when my parents told me that we were moving back to Wichita after living in Olathe for six years. I... wasn't the happiest camper in the world. After all, I was going to be a high school junior, and what kind of horrible parents would make their kids move. (Okay, my parents are pretty much the best in the world, and they did what they needed to for us.) They knew I wasn't happy, so they pretty much let me and my little sister decide where we wanted to live. We looked at several towns right outside Wichita, but for some reason (I say the man upstairs pointed me in the right direction...), Goddard stuck out to me... so there we moved.
I had to go to marching band camp at the end of the summer, which was an entirely crazy experience. It was entirely overwhelming, and I don't remember too much from it. But one thing I will never forget is this one trumpet player screaming at his section. I mean... it was scary. So I made a mental note at that point to steer clear of him.
Fast forward to second semester that year... 7th hour history. That crazy, screaming trumpet player sat next to me (assigned seating...). He seemed nice enough and all that, but I distinctly remember one day thinking, "I will never date a guy like him. Or him for that matter." Oh... how God must have chuckled when I thought that. .. I definitely do when I look back on it now.
In February that year... a very tragic thing happened, but didn't really impact me. Although, it hit Michael very close. I remember him being gone a lot during that time, and when he did come to class, he seemed and looked really tired and depressed. I think it was during that time that I started paying more attention to him, and just wanted to help him... to make him feel better...
After that, nothing really changed until the end of that summer... during my marching band section's initiation. For some odd reason that scary trumpet player was there... But I found myself wanting to talk to him. I still wasn't positive exactly how he was connected to the tragedy.. though I heard plenty from other people. I didn't feel like partaking in the water balloon fight that was going on outside... so I hid in my friend's basement, where he happened to be also. There was another one of our friend's down there too.. it was a little awkward... but there were some good conversations too. I found myself becoming more and more attracted to this guy that I never said I'd date.
As school started, our "group" of friends hung out almost every weekend, and I found myself trying to impress him, even though I was consciously trying not to impress him. I knew it wasn't helping... I had a pretty low self-esteem and whatnot... so I just crushed on him from afar... spying on him from across the room during band, or across the field during marching band... always swooning when he played his solo for "After The Love Has Gone" for our marching show. =) And before we would perform for marching band, I started a "free hugs" campaign. (One practice I gathered around 200 hugs from people in the band... including 2 or 3 from him...)
August turned into September turned into October with seemingly no interest from him. I was getting to know him through talking to him on MSN... But he seemed to be interested in other people. So I just kinda went with it. The closest thing to him seeming interested in me was during the KU marching fest when I hadn't given him his hug and he actually asked about it. That pretty much made my week. He introduced me to a prayer... that I later found in a cross-stitch. So I proceeded to do the complete cross-stitch (still the only one to this day I have finished.) After he had a rough couple days, I gave it to him half-finished. Which I don't normally do. He didn't seem really impressed... But I finished it anyway.
One day, I was seriously going to give up on ever getting to date him. I just figured that it was a hopeless cause. But after school one day one of my friends told me not to give up hope, and basically smacked him in the head.
After that... he actually asked me to see a movie at his house...Which was great... and then he went to get coffee at a local coffee shop for our first official "date". It was that night that I gave him the completed cross-stitch and he seemed thankful.. but who could be sure. =)
After that.. things started rolling. We had a great night at the coffeehouse and the movie at his house was really good too. There was an incident during a movie night close to Halloween... (heh.. it involved 2 other guys, trespassing and the police.. but ya know) and other movie nights.
Finally... two years ago tomorrow night... he came over to my house and asked me out. Awwww.
And so the rest... is history. There was no way I could have known two years ago that I'd be sitting here this day talking about how in love I am with this man... my best friend. He's the most amazing man and boyfriend, and I am so beyond blessed to be able to call him my lover. He's been through more so far in his life than many people go through in a lifetime, but he's better for it. He's my other half and I can't even imagine life without him. I love him more than words could ever say. Yeah, we have our fights, squabbles and disagreements on things.. but at the end of the day, we work things out and I'd have it no other way.

=) Tomorrow night we're going out to dinner in this crazy fancy place and all that jazz... I'll be sure to take pictures of the pretty food and events from the night.
So until...tomorrow....

The trees are absolutely beautiful here right now. Last year we had an early hard freeze, so the trees just kind of bared themselves, but this year they're turning all sorts of reds and oranges... It's gorgeous. Makes me remember why fall is my favorite season.
I've been pretty lazy this evening...doing laundry and rewatching Monday's One Tree Hill and sewing a bit... But it gave me time to think about the past... which happens when I get bored sometimes. Usually something triggers a memory and I'm thrown back to that time, and how things were. Mainly from when I lived in Olathe. There are times when, even now, I wonder how different things would be if my family hadn't moved back to the ICT.
Don't get me wrong here, I wouldn't change my life now for anything. I've been so beyond blessed and I wouldn't have it any other way.
But what if I'd stayed and graduated from Olathe. Who knows if I'd be at K-State for one... and would I have been nearly as happy? I can't think that I would have been, because I'm pretty sure it's hard to top life right now. Who would still be my friend, that I haven't kept in touch with since I moved? Would some of the people I knew have turned out differently too? Would I? So many questions that drive me crazy. What could have been?
I know that everything that has happened, has happened for a reason; that I'm where I'm supposed to be at in life. I completely believe that. I love where life is headed (though I don't want to jinx myself)... amazing boyfriend, great family and friends, planning my future... it's all amazing.. But that doesn't stop me from thinking, if even one thing had happened differently, how different would things be right now?
I don't know... And I never will... and I think at some point I'll finally come to terms with that. For now, I'll go back to keeping myself busy, and not taking for granted the beautiful things I have in my life right now.
Like trees.

p.s.... I miss you.

They're definitely giving away tacos for free at Taco Bell today from 2 pm-6 pm. I went and got one, and it was mighty tasty. Just as a head's up for you all.. and if it's over then you might be craving Taco Bell... Oops?
My dad called me a dinosaur a few weeks ago because I told him I like having CDs more than MP3s. Haha. (Who's he calling the dinosaur... he still has a crazy number of records in our guest room!!) I love my MP3 player and all, but I love having the actual CDs for my car and to look at and such... And they're getting cheaper too! I've got a wish list started over on amazon.com of CDs that I want. Ooh I'm a nerd. Whatever.
I bought a little portable heater for my room. For those who don't know, my room used to be a garage, but my landlord made it into a bedroom.. insulated it and it looks just like a room... it just doesn't get the heat circulated from the house very well. So I now have a fan and a heater fan. But it's keeping me warm, so I can't complain.
I have this odd pain in my upper abdomen area.. and I have no clue what it is. It kind of feels like someone's trying to rip my abs open or something. It goes away if I lay down, or sometimes if I sit down. It's not horrible or anything, just really annoying and achy. Anyone have any ideas? I'm just hoping it goes away...
MckMama's little baby Stellan will be arriving tomorrow morning!! Everything is a go, and the little guy will be born between 9:30 and 10 am tomorrow... Everyone keep him in their prayers as he undergoes lots of testing on his heart...
Okay.. I have to read five chapters in a book, and I have an organic chemistry test tomorrow to study for... so I'm out!
And yay to you if you know what the title of my post is relating to... =)
love,
alex

"Belief makes things real. Makes things feel, feel all right. Belief makes things true. Things like you, you and I...."
-"Belief" by Gavin Degraw
-update-
So, Michael has told me we're going to a nice restaurant for our anniversary dinner. I mean, dress nice. And I have no dresses. I have to dress shop. ....Crap.
-Original Post-
I've discovered I like some of Gavin Degraw's stuff, thanks to One Tree Hill, which I'm definitely not obsessed with... Wait. It's not Monday. Oops. Okay. So I might have a slight obsession with that show, but I blame it all on Shannon, Debra and Teal. Yup. I'm discovering more about myself this year... I already knew I am an obsessive person, I have been for many years, about different things. Books, movies, music, TV shows... (Lord of the Rings anyone? Mandy?? =) )
But one thing I learned this year... is I am sort of a control freak. Not about everything, but a few things. And I tend to freak out when I can't control things. Like the weather. I'm deathly afraid of tornadoes, and have been since I can remember. And when there's bad weather happening, I can't stop watching the news channels or checking it online. The fact that I can't control if something's going to destroy my house, scares me. But it's not just weather. I am a planner too. So, I'm trying to plan out things that are happening over the next year, but nothing's set in stone yet, and I'm just having a really hard time with that.
I think it's because of all of that that I have such a hard time just giving things to God. I know, and I tell myself, that everything is going to work out the way it's supposed to, and everything happens for a reason. I've experienced those first hand. But I'm such a planner, and, perhaps, a control freak, that I just can't give things over completely. I'm learning, and trying harder everyday not to worry about things more than needbe. Still, I find myself stressing over things that I can't control.
I don't know exactly where I was going with this.. just that I know it's possible to give up and let go.. I just pray that one day I am able to do that. And maybe if some of you have tips? They'd be much appreciated. =)
I'm totally supposed to be doing my english homework right now.. So, I suppose... off I go. I'll be back in no time. ;)
love.

Yaay welcome to the second edition of MckMama's imfamous "Not Me! Monday"
All righty.. let's see...
No way did I down a fourth of a (larggge) bag of peanut M&Ms Sunday morning. Not. At. All.
Speaking of food.. I also did not make a loaf of Italian Bread last night from a box and then proceed to eat half of it in 12 hours. Nope, not me!
My dear love, Michael, and I definitely didn't sit in silence for almost an hour because we were both too stubborn to give into each other in the squabble we were having. Nope! Our relationship is perfect, haven't you heard? No fighting/bickering here!
No waaaay did I skip out on studying last Thursday to play Rock Band with my roommate for like... 3 hours. I wouldn't do that!!! Besides, these classes are already kicking my arse, I could use all the studying I could get!!
Ahh. I feel better. =) But really.. Things are good here.. playing the "waiting game" with CSU... and though I'm trying not to get my hopes up, I'm not gonna lie, I'm really excited! In the meantime I'm trying to (unsuccessfully) stay caught up with classes and all that nonsense.
No one will ever need Chemical Analysis/Anayltical Chemistry.
Seriously.
Just had to get that out there... noow off to eat dinner and study for my differential equations test/watch One Tree Hill!!!
love,
alex

No Wordless Wednesday here today... but here's a cool pic anyway...
The leaves are finally beginning to change colors here, though you couldn't tell by looking in my backyard. The trees really didn't turn any colors last year, but they're turning all kinds of shades of reds and oranges this year, much to my delight. I love fall. =)
Sooo yesterday I was "studying" in the library... only, I wasn't... and I came across a picture of one of my favorite actresses, Bethany Joy Galeotti, from a CW conference. (She's on One Tree Hill, and I'm an OTH freak, for those who don't know... lol) And I thought the dress looked familiar... what do you think?
Oh yes, definitely familiar....
It's the same dress I wore to my brother's wedding! In a different color of course (I like her's better). But I maybe slightly freaked out (Sorry Shannon! lol) and got really excited. I think it's awesome. But.. I'm a nerd. Oooh good times.
So far this week I have...
*Spent $964.21 on my poor, poor car. But my parents helped and it's all better now! For the most part anyways....
* Gotten the worst grade on a test I've ever received... A 21%. Not even kidding. It curves to a D-, but still. (You'd think if a professor needs to curve grades that much, something's wrong...) Buut now I know what to expect next time. Hopefully.
*Added to my Hope Box with this crazy-soft outfit...
(my hope box has some baby clothes in it.. it's basically for if I find an adorable outfit annd just have to have it. For some day... a long time from now.)
And that outfit's on top of my reaaaally soft microfleece blanket Michael bought for me. =)
*Gotten a 78% on my second organic chemistry test, which I am satisfied with... It's better than I thought I did and better than the average.
*Found out that CSU has half of my documents, and the other half should be getting there soon. *Excitement*
Yup! And while this has been fun, I'm off to do more differential equations homework. Anyone feel like doing it for me?? Maybe?
Maybe next time. =)
love,

Hopefully.

So this is my first week in participating in MckMama's "Not me!" Monday. Basicall you just think of things from throughout the week that are maybe kinda embarassing, or that you wouldn't normally tell someone... It's kinda hard to explain, just check out her blog! And here are mine....
There's no way that I hid some of the cookies I made at work so that people couldn't buy them, and hence I wouldn't have to make more. That would be just wrong! (In my defense, it was really busy and I didn't have time to make more!)
I definitely do not try to peek into the windows of the hospital to two blocks from my house to see if I can see babies everytime I drive by it on my way home from work. That's kinda creep-tastic and weird and might get me in an accident. So nope. I would never do that...
I also did not eat a piece of cookie dough at work because I hadn't eaten dinner and there was an odd one out. That would probably get me fired. I'm not that kinda person. Psh. (Though it was really good.)
I definitely didn't not pay attention in two of my lectures today because I was too busy reading The Hunger Games. That's definitely not smart, and might be responsible for bad grades. And I... I get perfect grades.
*snort*
Finally, I definitely have not gone through 3 packages of Goldfish crackers in the past couple weeks. That's insane.
So that's it! I hope everyone...enjoyed.. and everyone should partake! It's good to see I'm not the only crazy one. =)
love!
