Hope Still Flies

Where to start, where to start.
Currently: winter not making an appearance. I'm not complaining with a total of an hour and a half commute every day.
Still no engineering job. I am working more at my part-time gig, and I am forever thankful for the crew there, who have welcomed and trained me. Great, great people.
I cannot cannot cannot believe that we're halfway through December, and I've been graduated for over seven months. And 2013 starts in a few weeks. Yeah, okay.
My fabulous husband is just about finished with his first semester as a Masters student. And I couldn't be more proud.
Still loving Lawrence. Good place, amazing people. Love being near my siblings.
Super excited KC is getting a professional women's soccer team. But I think I'm the only one. Don't caaare.

When I get frustrated with the fact that I don't have a job that really uses my major, I have to stop and be thankful that, at least, I do have a job. A good one. It is really hard when people ask what I'm doing and I have to reply that I'm still looking, and that, yes, it does suck, and, yes, the job market isn't the best. Regardless of everything, when someone I know or doesn't know asks and I have to say, "Yeah... still nothing." I feel like a failure... or an embarrassment. And it's hard. Especially when I get that sympathetic look. I just... I don't even know.

Done with that. I wish I had more to blog about, but, my life is pretty boring right now.

Wanna read something awesome? Check out my dad's blog. He's an actual writer. And way better at this than I am.

I've read a lot of good books recently. Everyone should read the Divergent series by Veronica Roth, and The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick. Go. Now.

I should be updating the photo blog in the next few weeks after my sister's best friend's son is born. Super stoked to take pictures of him.

Until next time.

• We got moved out to Lawrence a month ago. I still haven't unpacked everything, but our new place is great and homey. And I'm loving Lawrence as a town (shhh don't tell).
• Michael started his master's work a few weeks ago, and he's doing great. Working hard with staying up with classes while working 25-30 hours a week. He's Superman.
• I was home doing nothing but cleaning and watching Chuck for about 3 weeks. Super bored.
• Thanks to a family friend, I started some part time work this week. It's for a little company and it's only 3 hours or so a day (with a 40 minute drive there, 40 minute drive back) but I'm loving it. The people are great and it's something to get me out of the house.
• The career fair at K-State is in about 2 weeks. Prayers that one of the companies I talk to decides they want to hire me full-time.
• I took up running in my downtime this summer, but I'm super frustrated with how slow going building my endurance is. Keeping at it, though.
• Um. Fall show premieres start in a couple weeks. :)

This time around... I knew how long it'd been since I updated.

My last post was sad and angsty-enough. I wanted my next post to be, "Look I have a job! We're renting a house! Everything's perfect!"

But perfect is no fun, right?

So here we are. Almost halfway through July. I am still (big kid) jobless. My internship has been gracious enough to let me stay on this summer to work since I had nothing else planned. So I've stayed and been applying for jobs like a madman. But still, nothing.

In the middle of June, we realized that we should probably start making plans to get moved. Michael starts grad classes in August and we needed a place to live. So at the end of this month we're moving to Lawrence. A whole 90 miles east. We'll be in the same town as my brother and sister-in-law, and about a half hour away from my little sister and her boyfriend. It's a little smaller than what we're in now, but it'll do and it's a lovely place.

This isn't where I wanted or expected to be. Turning 23 on Friday and not having a full-time paying job in my field. I can list things or make excuses or whatever, but it won't make a difference. I'm fighting frustration, having to keep telling myself that things will work out; something will drop. I just have to keep applying and praying and keeping on. My focus right now is on getting moved. Have to be packed and out of here by the 31st, but can't move into our new place until the 7th. So I'm gonna be spending a week with my parents. I'm sure they're thrilled.

The weddings we photographed this spring went great. I'll go ahead and say I'm much better with the little people... thankfully Michael was there to tell people how to stand and look pretty. Between the two of us, I'm happy with how the pictures all turned out. I have no other photoshoots planned so far, but if anyone wants one... :) We also celebrated Michael's birthday...3 years of marriage (whaaat).. Garrett's 3rd birthday. It's all been awesome.

So this is my update to say: I'm alive. Still jobless. Moving! Taking things as they come. Trying to enjoy life amidst the chaos that is packing and moving.

Leave with a picture of me and Michael from his birthday... We went and saw Next to Normal at the Kauffman Center.
