Getting harder to keep his attention when snapping away while making sure he's not going to jump out of the chair.
This month was (again) filled with firsts. Chest x-ray (he's fine). Rice, then oatmeal cereals (not a fan). Sitting up by himself (from super wobbly to pretty stable in just a couple weeks). Rolling from back to stomach (while asleep. Thus waking him and making him mad. And then refusing to do it while awake). Holding his bottle on his own (but really, why do it when someone else will do it for you?). It's amazing to watch these things happen so quickly. To use the overrated cliche - he's definitely like a sponge. Just today he dropped his paci, he picked it up and I guided his hand to his mouth. Then at church he picked it up and put it back in his mouth by himself. Um. Okay?
He's quickly turning into an independent baby. He still loves to cuddle and give kisses and be held, but he also loves sitting and playing with toys. Trying to steal the spoon and feed himself. All those things. Suddenly I understand why people have babies so close in age - I want my tiny cuddly baby back! (No. No new babies here for quite awhile) Just sometimes, though... I definitely like urging him to crawl (I'll regret that) and talk (I'll regret that too). I can tell he's ready to go, and he probably won't stop once he gets going.
I joke he's learning a lot from the older babies at daycare, but I think that's actually probably true. Always so observant, and the older babies are so hilarious to watch. One just moved up to the 1-year-olds room though, and the new baby starting is just a little older. Between him and T's "twin" (they don't look so much alike now) those three boys will be a handful in a few months. (Sorry Ashlee!)
Sometimes he already looks so grown up I can barely handle it, and then the next he's my cuddly baby that needs me. I love it all.
At 5 months, T....
- As of 2 weeks ago was about 15.5 pounds and 26 inches. I measured him at 27 inches this morning. He seems to have slowed down the vertical growth this month a little and chunked out a bit. Not much, but some.
- Size 3 diapers. Anywhere from 3-6 month clothes to 12 month clothes. Since he's skinny I can force some 3-6 month clothes on him. 9 month fit pretty well. Wore 12 month jammies last night and they actually fit decently.
- Drinks between 36 and 40 ounces a day. I try to do cereal once or twice, but he really doesn't like it at all, so only get several bites in.
- Are officially waiting until 6 months to do veggies/fruits, but we had an avacado around for lunch so I gave him some and he loved it. Full on shaking/trying to grab the spoon with both hands when I was feeding him. Might do a little more avacado a bit this month.
- Definitely prefers to be sitting or standing with help now. He loves to faceplant for fun when sitting. Whatever works.
- Favorite toy is his stacking rings. Followed by every toy on the Exersaucer.
- Pushes up on his hands while on his tummy, and (if in a good mood) will stay there for about 10 minutes and turn himself in a circle.
- Recently begun to think he's teething? Between slight temps, shoving his whole hand in his mouth, trying to eat my arm, and more drool (which I just didn't think was possible) it's a maybe. We'll see.
- In his crib all night and for naps at home now. (Yaaay!)
- Still not much of an exact nap schedule. Usually 3-4/day depending on how long he sleeps.
- I got one full night of sleep, but since he's discovered rolling over, he's ususaly awake once a little after 3 before waking up for the day between 5 and 6.
- Still so smiley.
- At home he doesn't do well with sleeping unless he can cuddle a blanket.
- New nickname - grabby hands (Paper especially)
- Still hasn't quite got rid of whatever he has. Really starting to think it's allergies.
- Is currently trying to get to my keyboard.
