"No one tells you when it's time. There are no warnings, only signs. And you know that you're alone, you're not a child anymore, but you're still scared. All your mountains turn to rocks. All your oceans turn to drops. They are nothing like you thought. Can't be something you are not. Life is not a looking glass, don't get tangled in your past, like I am learning not to."
"Pride & Joy" by Brandi Carlile
Thank you, Grey's Anatomy, for reminding me of my love for Brandi Carlile.
*For the record, I've decided there's a decent chance I'll be a mess during the musical episode this week. How sad is that?*
We are home safe and sound after our trip out to Pennsylvania. I haven't flown in an airplane for 7 years (I think...) and I was reminded that I do not like flying. We had no problems getting through security or anything... It's just my control freak, Type A personality that freaks out. I survived. It wasn't that bad. I just don't think I could do it on a monthly basis.
Anyway... the trip was great. It's been years since I've seen most of my family that lives out there. I hate not seeing them often, because they're so awesome to be around. Since it was just Michael and I, we got to see most of the sights of Pittsburgh. Where relatives have lived (which is all over the city), where everyone works, Mt. Washington... I was reminded of how old everything out there is in comparison to everything here. Especially their bridges. But they're also beautiful.
Also, their roads are ridiculous. They curve and go up and down and every which direction. Roads here are flat, streets go in a straight line for the most part. Very different. We went the the National Aviary, where I got to hang out with some penguins...
We went to the Andy Warhol museum, a photography gallery, and ate ridiculous amounts of delicious food. There's such a wide variety of food up there. My dad said, "Your arteries will never be the same"... I think he was right. Then there were these thunderstorms that I'm pretty sure followed me from Kansas. Pennsylvania rarely sees thunderstorms with hail and tornadoes, but, of course, while I'm there...
Oh well. made for a pretty scene.
So a BIG thank you to my aunts and uncle who took care of us while we were out there. We miss you all! I hope we get to go back soon... we weren't there nearly long enough.
Though I think I'll drive next time.
Before going out there, Mike and I saw the Next to Normal tour live. It was everything I'd hoped it be and more. It's amazing how much different seeing a musical live is from just listening to the soundtrack. Loved it. A small town about a half hour from here is putting on another one of my favorite musicals, the Last Five Years for the next few weekends. We're going to go see that as well. I think Michael will be set for life.
The homework I did today reminded me of how much I still have left to do for the rest of the semester. Only another 6 weeks or so, but there's a lot to do in there. I enroll for the fall semester on Monday. Eek. I've also been reading a lot in there (especially with the flying this week), so maybe I'll make my next post a book review post thing.
Or something.
Excuse me while I go eat all the junk food I bought today, and watch Grey's Anatomy.
