"I'll give you stars and the moon and a soul to guide you and a promise I'll never go. I'll give you hope to bring out all the life inside you, and the strength that will help you grow. I'll give you truth and a future that's twenty times better than any Hollywood plot..."

It's been a few weeks since I've partaken in Not Me! Monday, so I thought I'd go for it. But be sure to go check out MckMama's blog and all of the other links, because they're way more exciting than my posts!
This past week, I definitely did not go through a whole package of Snack Wells Devil's Food cookies, (in three days, actually) and try to convince myself that it was okay, because they're healthy. Because they're really not.
Last Friday when it was beautiful outside, I did not drive around town and then campus blaring Spring Awakening for all to hear. Psh, I have to get tired of that soundtrack at some point, right? ... While driving through campus, I did not have "Totally F*ed" turned up very loud and most definitely did not get weird looks, or even a few head nods and smiles. Nope. I wouldn't do that...
I did not get uber excited when I talked to my nieces and nephew about my wedding yesterday. I'm a calm and collected adult all the time... (They, however, were extremely excited that they get to be in it and my nephew feels like a "man" because he gets to wear a tux and stand with the other groomsman. <3 class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">deafeningly loud the entire way and scream my voice to the point of being hoarse when I got back. Nah. Everybody knows that I do not sing, under any conditions.
Driving back from work this morning, I didn't laugh for about 5 minutes because I drove by one of those tax places and there was a lady outside in a statue of liberty costume holding a sign. Really, I was laughing at how unenthused she looked. It looked like she was glaring at the world. (I did feel really bad afterwards though.)
I am so not doing this instead of studying for my test that I have later.
But now, I do need to go study for that test. So... until next time!
much love,
alex

So I'm back in the Little Apple after a great weekend in KC with Michael. We left yesterday morning and got there a little early, so we bought me some allergy medicine (I was having some serious sinus issues) and looked around Best Buy for a little bit. Once we got checked into the hotel we got ready and decided to try our luck at the "first come, first serve" restaurants. It was only 5 pm, no one would be out yet, right?....
Wrong.
There were at least 150 people in the lobby of the Cheesecake Factory, and at J. Alexander's there were people lined up all the way down the bar and out the door. So we decided to do Cheesecake Factory's CurbSide To-Go and just have a picnic in our room. So we got all of that figured out and somehow managed not to get in a car accident in the parking lot when we picked it all up. Then we went back to the hotel and watched Lucky Number Slevin, and then 13 Going on 30.. (Couldn't pick 2 different movies, right? =) ) I ate so much I thought I was going to explode. And I could just describe to you what we ate, but I brought pictures, which are so much better....
Where we were supposed to eat...

um... I liked the mirror in the elevator.

After our unsuccessful attempt to find food, Michael orders. (in his suit. =) )
I got rigatoni...

He got steak...

And there was bread... (Anyone know what kind the brown one is? It was kinda sweet and really, really good...)

Annnnd the dessert. (From top left, clockwise are the Kahlua coffeecake cheesecake, the 30th anniversary cheesecake, lemon and raspberry cream and Godiva chocolate.)

They were all beyooond great. And we couldn't finish any of them. Half of three of them are in my fridge. =)
But now I'm back to reality, with homework to do... so I'm off to do that. Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day!
much love,
alex

So I've never been the biggest fan of Valentine's Day. I get that from my dad. =) but this weekend Michael and I are heading to Kansas City to just hang out and eat some good food. I'll be sure to take some pictures. I'm verry excited! Just have to get through the rest of the week, but since o-chem lab's over it's all downhill from here!
The wedding plans area slowly coming along. It's hard when Michael and I are so busy. I talked with my mom and sisters about it too. Everything'll come together... eventually.
I forgot how good Mountain Dew Limewire is. And so bad for me too. Ah, well.
So I was tagged by one of my new blog friends, Rebecca. You should go check out her blog, she's pretty awesome! So here we go!
Step 1:
Respond and rework—answer the questions on your own blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.
Step 2:
Tag four other un-tagged people. Be sure to let me know when you have done this, and link back to me. =]
1) What are you wearing at the moment? Jeans and my Relay For Life shirt from last year. And a hoodie. Plus my coat.
2) What is your favourite book? Pretty sure I can't pick just one. Ender's Game is an all-time favorite. The Twilight series (though sometimes I wonder why), The Host, The Pact, and Brave New World.
3) What is your favourite restaurant? Olive Garden. mmm.
4) Who was the last person you hugged? Michael
5) What is your current obsession/addiction? Ooh, this is a tough one. I'm re-going through a Spring Awakening phase. And One Tree Hill. That addiction doesn't go away. lol
6) What is your favourite moment of the day? Climbing underneath my microfleece sheet covers at bedtime.
7) What is your favourite programme to watch? One Tree Hill... or So You Think You Can Dance? ooor Grey's Anatomy. Or anything on the Food Network.
8) What was the last item you bought? Mountain Dew Limewire.
9) What is your most challenging goal? Right now it seems like planning a good wedding. lol. But in reality, finishing college with the right majors.
10) If you could pack your suitcase and go away tomorrow, where would you travel too? Soo many places. But right now either Pittsburgh, Ireland or Seattle.
11) Favourite vacation spot? Pittsburgh
12) What can you say about the person who tagged you? Rebecca's pretty much awesome. It's nice to see other bloggers my age. And I totally admire that she's becoming a nurse!
13) Name one thing you cannot resist even though you know it is bad for you? Coke or soda in general.
14) What is your favourite item of clothing? Sweats or hoodies.
15) What are your favourite pair of shoes? My Chucks.
16) Name one thing you could not live without? Family.
17) What is your most cherished item? Oh, this is a really hard one. My engagement ring, for sure. The dried flowers from my grandparens funeral, and anything I got from my family.
18) If you could have any other job, other than your current one, what would it be? Reasearcher for pediatric cardiology. Or a neonatologist.
19) What is your favourite drink? Coke. lol.
20) What is your favourite make-up? Yesterday, while shopping, I determined that I really don't like makeup at all. It's too expensive. Buuut eyeliner I'd say.
Sweet! Soo I'm going to tag...

So many people could be using prayers right now, but especially The Macs. Less than a month ago, they thought their baby girl was completely healthy. A couple weeks ago she was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on Sunday. I can't even imagine.
All right, engineering physics is calling my name. And I've found ignoring it does no good, so I'm off! I'll be sure to update later this weekend.

Things are good, but a little crazy here right now. Classes are picking up here. I have an organic 2 test tomorrow night and an engineering physics test on Friday. Plus I have to finish my prelab for my organic lab that's bright and early tomorrow morning and physics homework and biomed homework and it's allll just piling up. And what am I doing? Blogging. And listening to the new The Fray CD. And I also bought Adele - iTunes Live From Soho. So much good music.
Sooo I also got some great news today! My older sister (for those who don't know, she has three kids: Gage is 7, Madison is 6 and Megan is 4) is expecting a BOY in July!! We would have loved this baby if it were a girl too, but it was time for another boy... Gage needs a roommate. =) So I've been really excited for that.
Wedding-wise, we've ordered invitations and they should be getting here in another week or so. We wrote out a guest list and I'm currently racking my brain for centerpiece and favor and reception ideas. Oy. Buut... I'm very excited.
11 days until Valentine's Day and 18 until I get to go home/see Gordon Goodwin in concert!! I'm exciiiited. Oh goodness.
Off to do prelab goodness.
much love!

-"Song of Purple Summer" from Spring Awakening

Okay. I'm just jump in here... the musical was absolutely amazing. For those who don't know, I've been listening/obsessing over this musical for... a long time now... year and a half or two years or something. It's only been on Broadway, and goodness knows I haven't been able to make it out there. So when I heard they were touring, I freaked out. They stopped in Des Moines, which is five hours from here, and 3 or so from where Shannon and Becca were coming from. Soo.. It was on. Here's a little tale of my journey... =) (excuse pictures taken out my dirty windshield...)
I left Manhattan at 6 am... My view for the first hour was...

Yeah. It was great. But I continued and soon entered Nebraska.... (before the sun rose)

And I learned Nebraska looks like Kansas, but with a little more snow...

It got really sunny and I realized I forgot my sunglasses. So I opened the glove compartment and found my mom's glasses from a decade ago...

I then made my way into Iowa....

Where there were lots of wind vanes...

Finally I made it to Des Moines, where we ate lunch and then got some coffee here...

Then we saw the musical (review below...) and took some goodbye pictures. (Becca, my Shannon and me!) in the freeeezing cold.

Then I was on my way back to Kansas, taking a different way home. There was a field of about 20 (!!) deer....

Then, 15 hours after it started, my journey ended much in the same way it began...

The musical itself was so much more than I ever could have hoped it'd be. As amazing as the singing and acting was, there was so much more to it. The set is set up in a great way (I wish I could have gotten a picture...) to involve people and the cast. Plus, the energy from the cast as they do the songs is pure... gah. "Touch Me" almost made me cry because it's such a beautiful song (but probably not in the way you're imagining... lol). "Totally F*cked" had such a raw energy to it that I could never even describe. (Don't look too much into the song titles.. there really isn't that much cussing in it... though there's plenty of other stuf... lol). "Song of Purple Summer" has become one of my favorites... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppYFWOoItQc there is a video of the tour cast singing that and "Seasons of Love" from RENT. Gah. So. Great. But everything inbetween was also great. We were farther away than I 'd hoped, but it was still great.
Okay. I promise to stop now... but really. Everyone should look into seeing it. Seriously.
much love,
alex

...which I'm going to see Saturday at 2 pm! I'm oh, so very excited because I've been listening to this musical for a good while now and it just closed on Broadway a few days ago. So I'm seeing the tour in Des Moines with Shannon and Becca! I exposed Shannon. =D Anywho, it'll be a long day, involving 10 hours of driving, but it'll be SO worth it. (Ah, including waking up at 5:30 am. I don't know the last time I did that...) I'm bouncing from giddiness. How sad.
Or happy.
=D
I went dress shopping yesterday. And it reminded me how much I really don't like dresses and shopping. Throw them together and I'm bound to put up a fight. I went with my little sister (a bridesmaid) and one of my roommates. We took some pictures, but I won't post them on here because I know occasionally Michael reads and he doesn't want to know diddly squat about my dress. So yes. But I got more of an idea of what I want in a dress, which is good.
This month has already flown by, and I can't believe it's the21st 22nd. Classes are starting to pick up, which is allllways great fun. But I am really excited for my intro to biomedical engineering class. Which, again, makes me a bit of a nerd, but that's okay!
That's all for now I think... I hope everyone is doing well!

So for those few readers I do have, I apologize for the lack of updates. Borders and family consumed most of my winter break, but now I'm back in "Manhappenin'" for school. Classes start tomorrow, much to my disappointment. For the most part.
I am kinda excited about my programming class.
I would be.
So since my last update, Michael and I took a trip to Olathe, where I used to live, to visit a few good friends. One of them, Abbey, took some great pictures of us while we were there. Being me, I put up a fight, refusing to look at the camera or smile for most of them. Yet, the pictures turned out great. I'm not sure how she did it.
This one's been popular, and it's actually one of my favorites too...

Not only was I being uncooperative, but so was my hair, but there's a few where it's down...

And this one reminds me of Twilight. And that makes me a nerd. (He doesn't sparkle though. But I don't hold it against him. =) )

anyway.. There are plenty more, and we've ordered some for wedding invitations.
Speaking of which, we've, for now, set a date of June 13th. Of this year. You're allowed to think we're crazy. I question my own sanity sometimes, but I know it'll all work out, and I'm plenty excited.
I have a wedding site started, and will post the link for it soon. And it'll probably link back here, as this slowly morphs into a wedding blog until the wedding, and then back to an "Alex" blog after that.
For now I should get some studying done. First Organic Chemistry 2 class tomorrow morning. Really, I could do without, but that's okay.
much love
alex
P.S. If you're at K-State, you should head out to Hasting's this Saturday between 1 and 3. Band director, Dr. Tracz, will be "guest barista-ing", and I will be helping. Oh boy.

Since it's the beginning of a new year and all, I thought I'd give my blog a makeover... What does everyone thiiink? =) Anyways.. I have an inkling it's going to be a great year, and fly by even faster than the last one. I'm not really one for resolutions, mainly because I tend to forget about them, but I think I'm going to write out some goals here...
Goals for 2009
1. Get my majors for school finalized. Being a chemical engineer will be good.
2. To not let my schoolwork take over my life, but get good grades.
3. To not become bride-zilla. (lol)
4. Take the year to learn even more about myself, and work on the things I need to work on.
5. Grow more in my faith. And to learn more and respect other faiths.
6. Be the best fiancee (/wife), daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter, cousin and friend I can be.
7. Take the year in stride and know that things will be hard, but I need to look to God and my family and friends for support. But I know good times will happen too.
8. Make sure my loved ones know how much they mean to me.
9. Spoil my nephew and nieces (and new baby) rotten. =)
there. 9 for 2009. Good plan. I hope everyone's new year has started out great, and will continue to be that way!!
much love!
